I am adding a new service for my customers. If you have a favorite photo (travel, people, pets, anything!), I can improve it for you and print it (same archival papers and ink as my own photographs). You can decide what you want done (or you can have me decide). For example, in the first image shown below, I not only improved the image so that it looked great on paper, but I also removed some of the subject matter. If you don't want anything removed, that is no problem.
What does this service cost?
$60/hour ($40 minimum deposit). Price includes one archival 8.5 x 11 print (you can order larger for additional fees) and final copyright. Does not include taxes (for CA residents) nor shipping. I normally ask for 50% down on what I estimate to be the time needed to improve the images. Taxes for CA residents only apply to the print, not the labor.
How do I get my picture to you?
Electronically is fine. We can discuss details. JPEGs are what I usually get but I can work with other formats.
Can you fix a picture that is out of focus?
Generally, no. I can make it have the "appearance" of only slightly better focus. I can also render it more as a painting (like a watercolor) where the edges are not expected to be in sharp focus. Regardless, we have to start with an image that is only slightly out of focus.
What if I don't like what you did to my photo?
No matter what, your original is untouched. I only work on a copy of it. If it looks to me like a lot of change needs to happen, I will talk with you about it first. We can decide together. If, when you receive the print you decide that you do not like it, either (a) return the print and I will give you credit on my website for your deposit OR (b) I can work on it some more with specific direction from you. One way or the other, I want you to be happy!
Who has the copyright on the final image?
The original photographer retains all rights to the enhanced image.
BEFORE: Dark areas are almost black and do not print well. Too many people leaving the portal. Flat colors.
AFTER: Removed most people to throw emphasis on the great composition to the right. Gave colors more warmth and separation. Gave detail back to the shaded areas.
BEFORE: Colors are flat. There are blacks spots on the ground. Flesh tones and garden flat.
AFTER: Saturated colors, separated them, incresed brightness and got rid of black spots.
BEFORE: Reflections can be seen on window. Sunrise a little dull. (iPhone shot thru hotel window)
AFTER: Got rid of reflections; brightened clouds and sunrise; slight increase in color caturation
BEFORE: very flat and uninteresting color; 3D not emphasized
AFTER: brought out the variety of colors present; emphasized 3D elements; sharpened slightly
BEFORE: faded and flat; rectangular shape had a lot of uninteresting content on left and right sides
AFTER: cropped to a square; tone mapped to give life to colors and tonal range
BEFORE: a severly under exposed image
AFTER: tonemapped the image, brightened it, and rendered sort of like a painting
BEFORE: 3 extra people in the shot; main subject somewhat faded
AFTER: removed extra people; brightened main subject; also brightened around her
